A kind-hearted Leicester company has joined forces with the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) to support a project whichNurses in GG Scrubs
aims to improve nursing practice in Zambia.

Leading uniform provider Grahame Gardner Ltd, which specialises in providing uniforms to the health, veterinary, spa and beauty sectors, donated 100 sets of scrubs which the RCN were able to take on its recent visit to the Zambian Union of Nurses Organisation (ZUNO) in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.

At a cost of approximately £1500, the scrub suits were given to theatre teams from the University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka which is participating in the RCN’s quality improvement initiative. The programme aims to support ZUNO as a national nursing association to improve nursing policy and practice in Zambia, for the benefit of nurses and patients.

Ilona Johnston from the RCN, said: “The RCN and ZUNO would like to thank Grahame Gardner for their kind and supportive donation. The Lusaka team were delighted with their scrubs and this contribution has helped to further spread the word about our programme and its innovative work.”

The innovative RCN-ZUNO partnership project works with eight theatre teams in Lusaka and will run into 2017.

Gary Lory, managing director of Grahame Gardner Ltd, said: “We were delighted to be able to help this wonderful RCN project in Zambia. The scrubs have obviously made a big difference to the nursing staff at the hospital involved and it is lovely to know that we played a part in such a worthwhile initiative.”
