The team wanted something that would keep them a little warmer, look more professional and also something that complied with the new directive from the Department of Health for shorter sleeves – so turned to Grahame Gardner Ltd for help.
Carole White from Papworth Radiology Department comments on what they were looking for: -
“Although we like the look of scrubs we did find our old uniforms were too thin for the air conditioned hospital and the fabric not strong enough. Full of holes we felt they were becoming more of a Casualty than an ER! We wanted a more practical alternative uniform that offered the relaxed comfort of scrubs, and Grahame Gardner’s bespoke design team came up with a brilliant range of uniforms that all the staff love.”
The garments are produced in Teredo, Grahame Gardner’s durable medical fabric, which is long-lasting, easy to care for and, as it is poly-cotton, warmer than traditional scrubwear. Produced with three-quarter sleeves, the tops also meet the Department of Health Directive to minimise the threat of cross contamination and so they are suitable for lab and theatre work.
Identification of staff at the Department was a problem, so the department decided to use colours to differentiate between the disciplines within Radiology. All staff members within the department are wearing black trousers with different colour tops, light blue for Staff Nurses, mid-blue for Radiographers and Green for the Healthcare Support Workers. The Cardiac Physiology Technicians opted for raspberry scrubs.
Alongside their new uniforms, Papworth Hospital also invested in a new set of 3-arm modesty gowns for patients.
